Have you always wanted to learn how to knit? Hooray! Welcome to Knitting 101, a beginner’s guide to knitting. Follow our complete series of knitting basics with step-by-step instructions for each stitch and knitting technique. We also demystified language and acronyms in knitting patterns and interviewed a professional knitter (and a Tuts + resident knitting instructor). You will soon find yourself in a storm. So grab those needles and read on … but above all, have fun!

Your knitting adventure starts here! Relax and enjoy a quiet time playing with yarns and needles. In less than an hour, you will become a weaver …

This is the Windmill T-shirt. It gets its name from the windmill lace stitch on the bottom of the T-shirt. The top is an A-line t-shirt that falls at the waist and is trimmed to wear with high-waisted jeans or over a skirt.

The pattern is written for 6 sizes and easily adaptable to make it more of a tunic top (like Emilie’s) instead of a crop top.

The sample is knitted in Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK, a DK weight 3 yarn. I chose cotton to make my top as I plan to wear it all summer. But if you want to make this top more of a cute short-sleeved sweater, feel free to knit it in a yarn that’s much warmer.
