Amazing Crochet a Granny Square Patterns and Images

Coffee Time Throw Pattern

Grandma’s square is a classic crochet pattern. This is often one of the first things a person learns when they first learn to knit. Many people use the term grandma square to refer to any type of crochet square, but this tutorial will show you how to make a real grandma square. There are many variations on this basic design.

After you master the basic technique of crocheting grandma’s square, you can expand the design to make various useful and decorative items. From blankets and clothing to accessories such as bags and napkins, granny blankets are versatile and add color and style to your home and wardrobe. To knit Grandma’s square, you will need yarn and a crochet hook. You can use any type of yarn and any size crochet hook, although comb and H-hook yarns are an easy place to start. For best results, use the recommended crochet hook for your yarn as indicated on the yarn label.

This is a free pattern on my crochet blog. It is based on the traditional Granny Square. The pattern shows how to make the granny squares, as well as the color sequence of 25 granny squares. The pattern briefly describes the ‘join-as-you-go’ connection method, but there are tutorials available for this technique throughout. Alternatively, the maker can sew the squares together. The pattern outlines a simple border. Gauge is not critical to this project, but it can affect the amount of yarn. Thickness: 5 round Granny Square according to pattern = 10cm x 10cm. The pattern requires double knitted yarn – the sample used Stylecraft Special DK. The finished throw is approximately 114cm x 114cm.
