Lovely Crochet Patterns for Beginners in 2019

Ren Cowl Pattern

We selected them by hand because they are simple and easy ways to make a scarf and you don’t have to rely on individual crochet stitches that you will never use again. We’re not going to throw you double crochet or any crazy Afghan embroidery techniques (although if you’d like to learn them, we have an article on intermediate crochet stitches). We start you down the path to a simple crochet scarf. However, if this isn’t your first rodeo, we’ve included some more beginner scarves, but nothing fancy.

And don’t worry, these are all free crochet patterns for beginners, so following these links will have everything you need to learn how to make a scarf, step by step, slowly.

The Ren cowl is a super soft and warm scarf. It’s a fun pattern with a lot of texture and it works really quickly with a few simple Tunisian crochet stitches.

Skill level AS a previous knitter or crocheter: easy. If you are new to crochet, this Tunisian project is well advanced.

Any worsted yarn (# 4). I used WeCrochet’s Brava Worsted yarn in Fig (2 skeins or 275 yards).

Finished size measures approximately 8.5 inches wide and 33 inches long. Cowl has functional buttons for closure.
