Ocean Side Bag Crochet Pattern
Crocheting isn’t just a hobby for retired grandmothers – it’s a craft or even an art form that is gaining in popularity. Crochet is both practical and creative, and can be a great way to watch Netflix productively on cold, rainy days. Here we give instructions on how to create a simple bag using basic crochet techniques. This pattern can be adapted to suit almost any size and style of bags.
It was a really fun project for me because it worked fast and felt very “summer”. If you follow the blog, you may remember that I shared the Eco-String Market Knitted Bag Pattern (here) and have received requests for a knitted bag since then. This is definitely the lightest bag I’ve ever made (see my other bags here and here), but also one of the most durable.
This pattern uses only crochet stitches, so a beginner would be able to do it. While easy, the finished product looks more complex than it is! The double yarn crocheted yarn is wide for strength.
The size of the finished bag is 12 inches x 7 inches x 13.75 inches high. You can fit a lot in this bag!
I used Patons Hempster for this bag because of the hemp and cotton material, and because of the rich vivid colors. It is available online through yarnspirations.com. I used 2 skeletons of each of the 4 main colors (Sepia, White Sand, Surf and Deep Ocean) and 1 skein of the contrasting color (Coral). You don’t have a lot of Sepia left, but you’ll have some of the other top 3 colors and lots of contrast color left … enough to make a phone sling or two. This bag may not be the cheapest to carry, but let me tell you, I have completed this bag more than any other I have ever made! (My co-workers also told me that this bag would make a great clue lol.)
